California Band of the Battalion, an authentic creation of a Civil War brass band, performed on the first day of the inaugural Tumbleweed Township Wild West Festival, held at Simi Valley Civic Center on October 22 and 23, 2016. The fund-raising event re-created an 1890s western town and marketplace, and included staged performances by members of the Actors’ Repertory Theatre of Simi, or ARTS, as well as live entertainment by musicians and dancers. ARTS partnered with the Nottingham Festival to create Tumbleweed Township where attendees could meet legendary lawmen, ruthless outlaws and outrageous women of the Old West. via YouTube Capture
This event describes early pioneer families of the Buckeye Township that once existed in southwestern Yolo County. John Martin and Rafael Galiano, owners of Park Winters, hosted the event in a historic barn at their historic Victorian hotel. George Griffin welcomed the overflow crowd and historian Joann Larkey presented early maps and information about Buckeye Township. William A. Chapman and Victoria Murphy presented extensive recollections and photographs about their prominent pioneer families.
